Name: Patti Jarabek
Year started at FPCS: 1992
How many years have you taught: 27, 25 in Fort Plain
Grade level(s) taught: 6-12
Clubs/Sports you’ve advised/coach: JV Cheerleading Coach (long, long ago), Foreign Language Club, Class Advisor (many times)
Proudest Accomplishment: My work with APPR & the FPTA for the last 20 years. Also, despite my department being cut in half, we still graduate a proud number of students with two semesters of college credit in foreign language. Being able to give the students a “jump start” academically (and financially) is so important!
Favorite FP memory: (So Far) After teaching Don Quijote de la Mancha to a group of students, we were able to stand next to the windmills in Consuegra, Spain and have the literature come to life! Also, I can’t neglect mentioning spending 25 years with my significant other who has made me a better teacher and a better person.
Any additional info: (hobbies, interests, etc.) I love to read and I’m having a ball with Mary Van Patten and the students with Battle of the Books, if I were a millionaire I would travel everywhere, but was so fortunate to take groups of students to Italy and Spain, spending time with my family
What do you enjoy about teaching here: I love being a part of my students’ journey. Having them for four years makes them feel a little like family so I laugh with them, grieve with them, and celebrate with them. Being a part of their “potential” is an honor and great responsibility. I wouldn’t change a thing.

Favorite FP memory: (So Far)
I took the kids outside for a quick break on the hill by the locker room. I had them run up the hill to the fence, touch it, jump up and down 5 times then come back. We’d done similar activities many times, but was a little muddier than I realized. David Wilday fell face forward on the way down. He slid 8 to 10 feet down the hill and then stood with his hands up and a confounded look on his face. He was totally coated in mud from the neck down. I had to do everything I could not to laugh! Instead I asked, “Would like to go see the nurse for some clean clothes?”

What do you enjoy about teaching here: I just love working with the kids. They always make me smile.
